The benefits of decluttering go beyond just the tangible benefits of a clutter-free, tidy home. Decluttering can become an important way to practice self-care because it helps you take control of your home, your belongings and your life to improve your overall wellbeing.

Here are a few examples of the ways decluttering is important for self-care by helping to improve your overall wellbeing and quality of life:

More space
The more surfaces you can create, the more space you have, the easier it is to relax into that space. Tackle one room at a time and see how much more calming it is to use when all the clutter is gone. Relaxation is great for our health and wellbeing and helps reduce stress levels. Less clutter means less stress too.

The more clutter you have, the more mental power it takes to think about it. Few people walk into a cluttered space and feel relaxed and at ease there. Quite the opposite.
So, by decluttering a space, however big or small, you’ll waste less mental power thinking about it.

More time

Lactoferrin is an iron-binding glycoprotein (sugar-protein) naturally present in milk: Lacto = milk, ferrin = iron. It belongs to the transferrin family that transports iron ions and it is a natural constituent of body fluids such as saliva, breast milk and tears.

Lactoferrin binds the iron already present in the body, helping the body utilize and absorb it more efficiently. This removes the need to add additional non-native sources of iron, allowing the body to receive the right balance of iron without the stomach and intestinal discomfort.1

  • Maintain a healthy gut. Gut health refers to the balance of microorganisms that live in the digestive tract. Looking after the health of the gut and maintaining the right balance of these microorganisms is vital for physical and mental health, immunity, and more. These bacteria, yeasts, and viruses are also called the “gut microbiome” or “gut flora”. Many microbes are beneficial for human health, and some are even essential.

To maintain a healthy gut, increase your fibre intake. Good examples of high fibre vegetables are artichokes, leeks, onions and garlic, which all contain high levels of inulin (a prebiotic fibre). Some vegetables like lettuce have little fibre or nutrient value. Choose food and drinks with high levels of polyphenols. Polyphenols are antioxidants that act as fuel for microbes. Examples are nuts, seeds, berries, olive oil, brassicas, coffee and tea – especially green tea.

You can also consume plenty of fermented foods containing live microbes. Good choices are unsweetened yoghurt; kefir, which is a sour milk drink with five times as many microbes as yoghurt; raw milk cheeses; sauerkraut; kimchi, a Korean dish made from garlic, cabbage and chilli; and soybean-based products such as soy sauce, tempeh and natto.

Nutritional supplementation is also helpful. Lactoferrin may help the body absorb what is already there and importantly, does so without upsetting the stomach.  It has been shown in clinical research to be more bioavailable, allowing for more efficient absorption of iron, compared to other iron sources.2

Simple tips for a Healthy Winter with Winter Wellness

It may be cold outside, but winter needn’t be the unhealthiest time of year for you and your family. Along with chilly temperatures winter brings a variety of bugs, often leaving you feeling run down. Although there are no quick fixes to prevent colds and flu from striking, here are some simple steps you can take to ensure your immune system is functioning at peak performance.

1. Wash your hands and do it right. Everyday you come into contact with thousands of germs and bacteria. Wash your hands several times a day with plenty of soap and warm water for 15-20 seconds.

2. Keep hydrated. Your fluid intake can help to ease the symptoms of colds and flu – it prevents the throat and nose lining from drying out. Warm fluids are especially helpful as they can help moisten your throat. According to new guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and Public Health England (PHE), honey drinks (and add a dose of lemon for added vitamin C!) have been shown to ease coughing.Try to drink at least 8 glasses of fluid each day.

3. Get enough sleep. The National Sleep Foundationrecommends seven to eight hours of sleep a night to keep your immune system in fighting shape. When you are running on empty and in a sleep deficit, your immune system can suffer, leaving you more susceptible to picking up winter bugs.

4. Light. Open the blinds and windows as often as you can.  Get outside and soak up some natural light – the health benefits are endless and include topping up essential vitamin D, helping you get a good night’s sleep and even improving your mental health. Take the dog and the kids with you or enjoy a peaceful walk by yourself. Even a few minutes out on your lunch break can make all the difference.

5. Eat fruit and vegetables from a rainbow of different colours. Did you know each different colour provides you with a different array of nutrients? Make sure you include plenty of green, red, purple/blue, yellow/orange and white/brown fruits and vegetables in your diet every day. Some examples of the immunity boosting nutrients found in fruit and vegetables include: Vitamin A (or carotenoids – any vegetable of orange or yellow colours and some green foods like dark green veg),Vitamin C (citrus fruits, kiwi, tomatoes, potatoes, berries and broccoli) and Phytonutrients (compounds found naturally in plants). Phenolics (found in most fruit and vegetables) and flavonoids (berries, onions, Brussels sprouts, citrus, kale and parsley) are common phytonutrients, which are known to have immune benefits.

Det är bara en månad till Alla Hjärtans Dag … Februari har länge firats som en månad av romantik och ”Saint Valentine’s Day”, innehåller rester av både kristen och antik romersk tradition. Den inträffar varje år den 14 februari.

Vad är meningen med dagen och varför firar vi det?

Den här dagen fick sitt namn efter helgonet Valentine. Enligt en legend skickade ett fängslat helgon faktiskt det första  ”Alla hjärtans kortet”  efter att han försälskat sig i en ung flicka som besökte honom under hans fängelsetid . Innan hans död påstås det att han skrev ett brev signerat “From your Valentine”, ett uttryck som fortfarande används idag.

Valentinhälsningar var populära redan på medeltiden, även om skriftliga bevis inte dök upp förrän efter 1400. Den äldsta kända Alla Hjärtans kortet som fortfarande finns idag var en dikt av hertigen av Orleans till sin fru medan han satt  fängslad i Towern i London. Det är nu en del av manuskriptsamlingen från British Library i London, England.1

Kärlek betyder att dela med sig. Alla hjärtans dag är en dag för omtanke om våra nära och kära. På många ställen runt om i världen utbyts godis, choklad, blommor och presenter mellan nära och kära, allt i Saint Valentine’s namn. När vi välkomnar 2019 är jag tacksam för de många minnesvärda upplevelserna de senaste 12 månaderna. Det var evenemanget i Mexico City, Nikken Nordamerikas jubileumsfirande i San Diego och Team Kaizen-resan till Italien. Det var Diamantseminariet i Toronto, det Europeiska  evenemanget i Paris och ett nordamerikansk toppledarmöte. Och slutligen var det öppningen av Chile. Alla dessa aktiviteter gav mig chansen att möta gamla vänner och få nya vänner. Var och en av dessa händelser gav mig ett adrenalinkick!

Jag är också tacksam för din starka övertygelse att dela med dig av Nikken Active Wellness med så många människor som möjligt som är i stort behov av våra produkter. Det kan inte vara någon mer givande aktivitet än att introducera människor till de 5 pelarna för välbefinnande. Året 2020 kommer att bli ett mycket spännande år för vår globala  Wellness-gemenskap. Här är några exempel på vad som väntar oss under 2020:

Vi kommer att fortsätta att introducera nya och förbättrade produkter som kunderna vill ha och behöver.

Vi kommer att ge dig fler fantastiska verktyg som underlättar att sälja produkter.

Vi kommer att fira 45 år av ”Active Wellness” i New York City på vår globala konferens.

Vi kommer att vara värd för ytterligare ett Europeiskt evenemang i Paris, ett annat diamantseminar i Nordamerika och ett annat ledarstoppmöte i Nordamerika.

Kvalificeringen till Team Taishi eller Kaizen kommer att erbjuda spännande resor under 2021.

Tillsammans kommer vi att förbättra människors välbefinnande i alla hörn av världen. När du hjälper andra kan du dra fördel av de olika belöningarna som ingår i vårt motivationsprogram. Vi kommer att göra allt detta samtidigt som vi respekterar miljön.
